Kickstarter!
It was the race to the finish as far as funding goes, but we made our kickstarter goal! Thank you to everyone who contributed, forwarded the funding link, who talked about the project and who supported this effort. We were able to use the money raised from the silent auction to make up the difference in the last hour of the open funding window to receive the $6500 in funding. There are some fees associated with kickstarter (I think up to 10% of the total earned), so thus far, we are up to about $5500 earned of the $20,000 goal!
This is such happy news!

AIA - Urban Forum Presentation
I presented the Sail Away project at the AIA - Urban Design Forum on today (Monday, April 25th, 2011 at GGLO's offices). It was an interesting meeting focused on the future plans for the "Civic Square" development that is currently the giant pit near City Hall. I think this is another space prime for a temporary are project...!

Fundraising Update
The total fundraising goal is $20,000. I hope to reach this through a variety of strategies including
- Fundraising Events: $2500 (as of 4.24.2011)
- Grants: Pending application with 4 Culture
- Individual Giving: $600 (as of 4.24.2011)
- Foundation Donations: Possible donation in the works (stay tuned)
- Kickstarter (to date, we have raised just over $1600 on kickstarter, but the funding does not become a reality unless we raise all $6500)

Auction Item #15 - Cathe Gill Art!
Title: Gasworks Park
Medium: mixed media (pastel into wet watercolor)
Image Size: 8x10"
Framed size: 15x17"
Price: $425. framed
Bio: Life as an artist continues to be exciting, challenging, sometimes balanced and always fun. My energies all go into finding new ways to be creative in doing my artwork, teaching and marketing. My work space is my studio in the Georgetown area of Seattle. It is also all the many places that I go to paint and teach workshops. Working on location has a real depth of experience that expands my skills and my mind. My outdoor studio ranges from the park near my house, to the industrial area of Seattle where my studio is located, to the Cascade Mountains, which are less than an hour drive from my home. It also extends to China, Montana, Portland, Oregon and Italy. But it could also be out the car window.
I enjoy working on location. I like what happens with the ideas that are generated when I am out there. New shapes and marks and ideas develop. I might start in the fall standing in front of a forest and painting orange trees, but wind up realizing it is a refuge, that the small animals are starting to hunker down to survive, and the painting then becomes about safe places in hard times. "Initally, I began expereimenting and studying Geometric Art much in the same way as I did when I was a kid - just for amusement and fun. But as I progressed, so did my appreciation and attidue. I becasue fixated with trying to harmonize parts of a pattern from chaose to order. STructurally, every patter is center-based in which all lines run through, and if noe also has a strong center and foundation, one will find harmone and confidence in all that is difficult."
